OCEAN · Tallow Magnesium · The Water Element
Wrecked all day. Wide awake at eleven.
Tight shoulders. Restless legs. A jaw you can't unclench and a head that won't switch off. More than a third of Australian adults aren't getting enough magnesium, and it shows up at night. OCEAN is magnesium and Australian sea salt carried in grass-fed tallow, so your skin takes it in while you wind down.
Why nothing you've tried has stuck
Your body is running on an empty tank.
Magnesium sits behind hundreds of processes in the body: muscle function, nerve signalling, energy production, and the shift down a gear that lets you fall asleep. Most of us are running low. And the oldest fix in the world is the ocean, a swim, a soak, a week at the coast, because sea water is loaded with exactly these minerals. The problem is the other 360 days of the year.
- Magnesium tablets that upset your stomach before they touch your sleep
- Sprays and oils that sting, itch, and dry to a chalky film
- Epsom baths that work beautifully, if you have forty spare minutes
- Night creams that sit on the surface and do nothing for the tension underneath
Here's the part most magnesium products skip: getting it in is the whole problem.
Swallow it and your gut decides how much you keep. Spray it on bare skin and most of it dries on top. Magnesium needs a carrier your skin actually welcomes.
The OCEAN difference
Magnesium, carried in the one fat your skin already recognises.
Tallow is close in structure to sebum, the oil your own skin makes. That's why it sinks in rather than sitting on top, and why it works so well as a carrier. We infuse it with magnesium chloride, Australian sea salt and whole-plant lavender, then pour it by hand in Yamba. One jar for your skin and your nervous system.
- Magnesium chloride, one of the more soluble forms, delivered through skin instead of gut.
- Carried in sebum-similar tallow that absorbs deeply and leaves no greasy film.
- Australian sea salt and lavender, minerals and whole-plant botanicals, not fragrance oils.
- Built for the evening, the moment your body is meant to shift down a gear.

The evidence
What the research actually says about magnesium.
We'd rather show you the studies than shout at you. Here's the published work on magnesium, sleep and skin, including where it's strong and where it's still early.
It runs more of you than you think
Magnesium is a required cofactor in over 300 enzyme systems, including muscle and nerve function, energy production and blood pressure regulation.

More than a third of us fall short
In 2023 the ABS found 35.9% of Australian adults didn't meet their magnesium requirement from food and drink. Highest of all in men over 75.

Eight weeks, five things moved
46 older adults with insomnia took magnesium or placebo daily. Every marker above shifted significantly in the magnesium group.

Pooled across the trials
People fell asleep about 17 minutes sooner than on placebo. The reviewers note the trials were small and the certainty low, so we quote both together.

Sea minerals, on real skin
One forearm soaked in magnesium-rich sea salt solution, the other in tap water, for six weeks. The salt arm won on all four measures.

It did get through the skin
Serum magnesium before and after 14 days. It rose in the cream group and not the placebo group. A small pilot, and the first solid human signal.

And here's what we're not claiming
None of these studies were conducted on OCEAN. They're research on magnesium and on sea minerals, and we're sharing them so you can judge the ingredient for yourself rather than take our word for it.
Transdermal magnesium is a genuinely young field. The evidence that it absorbs is early and encouraging rather than settled, and we'd rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. OCEAN is a moisturiser made to support your skin and your evening wind-down. It is not a medicine, it doesn't treat any condition, and it doesn't replace advice from your doctor.

Five ingredients. Nothing else.
Read the label. It won't take long.
No fillers, no preservatives, no synthetic fragrance. Five whole ingredients, each doing one job, in a base your skin has recognised for as long as humans have had skin.

100% Grass-fed tallow
Biologically similar to sebum, your skin's own oil. It moisturises deeply and carries the magnesium in with it. Sourced from ethical Australian farms.

Magnesium chloride
The reason you reach for the jar at night. Magnesium supports muscle function, nervous system function and restful sleep.

Australian sea salt
Rich in sodium, calcium and potassium. Helps balance oil production and leaves skin feeling clean and comfortable rather than stripped.

Jojoba oil
Another wax ester close to sebum, rich in vitamin E, B vitamins, antioxidants and trace minerals. Organic, from a family-run QLD farm.

Lavender
An organic whole-plant infusion, not an essential oil dropped in at the end. Calming on the skin, and the scent that tells your body the day is finished. Gentle, creamy, never perfumed.
Your evening ritual
Two minutes, last thing at night.
A pea-sized amount is all you need. Warm it between your palms and massage it in slowly, wherever the day has collected: the soles of your feet, calves, shoulders, the back of your neck, or across your face as a night cream.
- Feet and calves first if sleep is what you're after. It's the traditional place to apply magnesium before bed.
- Massage until it disappears, a little goes a long way and it absorbs without a greasy film.
- Use it on tight or tired areas after training, after a long day standing, or across the abdomen.
- Pair it with the affirmation on every jar: [insert OCEAN affirmation here].
What to expect
From the first night.
Softer skin, slower breathing
Skin feels instantly comforted and cushioned. The lavender does its quiet work while you massage it in.
Less tension where you hold it
Customers most often mention shoulders, calves and feet, and waking up feeling like they actually rested.
Calmer, more comfortable skin
Dry, rough and reactive patches settle. Skin looks more even and feels less like it's fighting you.
A ritual you don't skip
By now most people have stopped thinking of it as skincare. It's just what happens before bed.
Honest answers
The questions we get every week.
Does magnesium really absorb through skin?
The honest answer is that the research is early but encouraging. The best human study so far, a 2017 pilot trial published in PLOS ONE, found that magnesium delivered in a cream base raised serum magnesium levels where a placebo cream did not. It was a small study and the authors say so. What we can say with confidence is that tallow is an exceptional carrier, because it's biologically similar to your own sebum, and that magnesium suspended in tallow behaves very differently from magnesium sprayed onto bare skin.
Why not just take a magnesium tablet?
Plenty of people do, and there's nothing wrong with it. But oral magnesium is filtered by your gut, and for some people higher doses cause digestive upset before they cause better sleep. OCEAN gives you another route, and you get a genuinely good moisturiser at the same time.
Will it sting like magnesium sprays do?
No. That tingle or itch people describe with magnesium oil comes from a concentrated salt solution drying on bare skin. Here the magnesium sits in a nourishing tallow base, so it goes on like a rich balm.
Is it safe for sensitive or reactive skin?
It's made with sensitive skin in mind: bio-compatible ingredients, no preservatives, no synthetic fragrance, no harsh actives. As with anything new, patch test a small area first.
Will it feel heavy or greasy?
Not if you use a little. The texture is rich and silky and melts as it warms, then absorbs gradually. Customers describe it as luxurious rather than oily. If you're prone to greasy textures, start with less than you think you need.
What does it smell like?
Gentle and creamy lavender, from a whole-plant infusion rather than added fragrance. There's a faint natural tallow note underneath. Most people find it barely noticeable and quite calming.
Morning or night?
Night is what it's built for. Use it as your evening face and body moisturiser, or target the areas that need it. You can absolutely use it in the morning too, it just does its best work as part of winding down.
One cream. Your skin and your nervous system.
Instead of a body moisturiser, a night cream, a magnesium spray and a tub of Epsom salts, OCEAN is one hand-poured jar for the whole evening ritual. Five whole ingredients, nothing else.

"I have tried numerous tallow brands but rate this one the highest. It has a creamy, luxurious feel that other tallows don't have.
