Nobody sets out to build a skincare routine with seven steps in it. It accumulates. A serum because your skin looked dull, an eye cream because the serum was too strong for the eyes, a rich night cream because the serum was drying, and a neck cream because it said neck on it.

Read any moisturiser's ingredient list. The first word is almost always water.
Water is the cheapest thing in the jar, and it drags the rest of the list in behind it: emulsifiers to stop it separating from the oils, preservatives to stop it growing bacteria, thickeners, stabilisers, and fragrance to cover the smell of all that. Take the water out and most of the list has nothing left to do.
The MOUNTAIN difference
No water. So nothing needs preserving.
MOUNTAIN is anhydrous, which is the unglamorous technical word for waterless. It is fat, marrow and whole-plant infusion, and that's it. There's no water phase to emulsify, nothing for bacteria to grow in, and therefore no preservative system required. What's left is five ingredients that are all actually doing something for your skin.

Not everything on your shelf is redundant. Your cleanser stays, and so does your sunscreen. But the moisturising half of the routine collapses into one step.

This is a concentrated balm rather than a lotion, so the jar lasts far longer than the volume suggests. Used morning and night, most customers get months from one.

Grass-fed tallow
Grass-fed and grass-finished from ethical Australian farms. Its fatty acid profile closely mirrors your own sebum, so it absorbs deeply rather than sitting on top. Naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E and K.
Purified bone marrow
A whole-food source of collagen, minerals and fatty acids, and the reason this jar does more than moisturise. An animal fat itself, so it goes in with the tallow.
Hibiscus
A certified organic whole-plant infusion, rich in antioxidants, traditionally used to help protect the collagen your skin still has and gently even tone.
Clove
Another organic whole-plant infusion. A natural antioxidant that helps refine the look of pores and bring back a little brightness.
Organic jojoba oil
A wax ester rather than a true oil, and also structurally close to human sebum. It keeps the balm soft enough to scoop with a fingertip on a cold morning and to glide on without dragging. Grown on a family-run farm in Queensland.
The whole routine
It fits in one line.
Cleanse. Take a pea-sized amount. Warm it between your fingers, then smooth it up and out across the face, under the eyes, down the neck and over the backs of your hands. That's it, and in the morning, sunscreen over the top.

Honest answers
The sensible questions about a five-ingredient jar.
No preservatives. How is that safe, and how long does it keep?
Bacteria need water to grow, and there is no water in this formula. That's why waterless balms don't require the preservative systems that creams and lotions do. Keep the jar closed, scoop with clean dry fingers, and store it out of direct sun and away from heat. Treat it as you would a good cooking fat and it keeps for many months.
Do I still need sunscreen?
Yes. Absolutely, every day, and nothing in this jar changes that. MOUNTAIN has no SPF and offers no sun protection. In Australia, sunscreen is the single most effective anti-ageing product you own, and this goes underneath it, not instead of it.
Is one jar really enough for my whole face and body?
For face, under-eyes, neck, chest and hands, yes, comfortably. For full-body use it goes quickly, and most customers who want that use it on the face and neck and keep a lighter option for arms and legs. A pea-sized amount really is the right dose.
What about my serum and my retinol? Am I meant to throw them out?
Not if they're working for you. MOUNTAIN layers happily as the last step over a serum, and plenty of customers use it on the nights they aren't using actives. What it tends to replace on its own is the moisturiser, the eye cream, the neck cream and the hand cream, because it's doing all four of those jobs.
Be straight with me: does it smell?
A little, yes, and this is the honest cost of a five-ingredient jar. There's no synthetic fragrance in here to hide behind, so what you smell is what's in it: rendered grass-fed fat, plus the earthy, faintly spiced note of the clove and hibiscus infusion. It settles within a minute or two of going on and nobody else notices it. A small number of customers never make peace with it, and if that's you, tell us and we'll look after you.
Will a beef fat balm clog my pores?
Tallow is generally well tolerated because it's so close to your own sebum, and customers with combination and blemish-prone skin report it hasn't caused congestion. Skin is individual, so patch test first, as with anything new.
