MOUNTAIN · Tallow Collagen · For skin in the change
Your skin changed in a year, not a decade.
It isn't your imagination, and it isn't your cleanser. In the years around menopause, skin collagen falls by roughly 30%, and your oil glands slow down at the same time. That's why everything that worked at 40 suddenly doesn't. MOUNTAIN was made for this exact window.
What nobody warned you about
They told you about the hot flushes. Not this.
Somewhere in your forties, your skin stopped behaving like your skin. Not gradually, the way ageing was supposed to work. It happened over a season or two, and it feels less like getting older than like losing a barrier you didn't know you had.
- Dry by mid-morning, no matter what you put on at seven
- An itch on your arms, shins and back with nothing there to see
- Skin that creases now where it used to spring back
- Reacting to products you used happily for ten years
- Crepe along the neck, chest and the backs of the hands, seemingly overnight
- A face that looks tired in photographs when you don't feel tired
30%
Skin collagen falls by around 30% in the first five years after menopause, then continues at roughly 2% a year. It is the fastest your skin will ever change.
Brincat et al., Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1987, as cited in current menopause dermatology literature. The MOUNTAIN difference
Two things are falling at once. This answers both.
As oestrogen declines, two separate things happen to your skin. You make less collagen, so it thins and loses its bounce. And your sebaceous glands slow right down, so you make less of your own oil, which is why the dryness and the itch arrived together. Most anti-ageing creams are built for one problem, on skin that still makes its own oil.
- For the oil you've stopped making: grass-fed tallow, whose fatty acid profile closely mirrors human sebum. It is about as close as you can get to replacing like with like.
- For the collagen you've stopped making: purified grass-fed bone marrow, a whole-food source of collagen, minerals and fatty acids, carried in on the tallow rather than sitting on the surface.
- For skin that has turned reactive: five whole ingredients. No preservatives, no synthetic fragrance, no actives to sting compromised skin.
- For where it shows first: face, under-eyes, neck, chest and hands, from one jar.
MOUNTAIN | Tallow Collagen, the Earth element.
Why a fat, and not a lotion
Your barrier is made of fat.
The outer layer of your skin holds itself together with lipids. When oestrogen drops, you produce fewer of them, which is exactly why water-based moisturisers feel lovely for an hour and then leave you tight again. You can't rebuild a fat barrier with water and emulsifier.
Tallow is recognised, not tolerated.
Because its fatty acid profile is so close to your own sebum, your skin treats it as something familiar rather than something to push out. That is also what makes it a carrier: whatever it holds goes in with it.
- Fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, the nutrients skin uses to repair itself, delivered in the form skin absorbs them in.
- No water in the jar, which means no preservative system is needed to keep it safe.
- Nothing to sting. No acids, no retinoids, no alcohol, no essential-oil fragrance blend.
Five ingredients. Nothing else.
Short enough to read on the jar.
No fillers, no preservatives, no synthetics, no added fragrance. When your skin has turned unpredictable, a short list is not a marketing angle, it's the point.

Grass-fed tallow
Grass-fed and grass-finished from ethical Australian farms, and close enough to your own sebum that skin absorbs it deeply rather than resisting it.

Purified bone marrow
A whole-food source of collagen, minerals and fatty acids. Because marrow is an animal fat itself, it travels in with the tallow instead of resting on top.

Hibiscus
A certified organic whole-plant infusion, rich in antioxidants, traditionally used to help protect the collagen your skin still has and gently even tone.

Clove
Another organic whole-plant infusion. A natural antioxidant that helps refine the look of pores and bring back a little brightness.
Organic jojoba oil
A wax ester rather than a true oil, and also structurally close to human sebum. It softens the balm so it glides on without dragging, which matters a great deal when the skin you're applying it to has thinned. Grown on a family-run farm in Queensland.
What to expect
Comfort first. Then the rest.
The tightness lets go
This is the one customers mention first. Skin feels cushioned and comfortable rather than stretched, and stays that way past mid-morning.
Rough patches soften, itch settles
The dry, flaky areas along the jaw, shins and arms begin to smooth. Makeup starts sitting evenly again instead of clinging.
More supple, softer lines
Skin looks more hydrated and bouncy, and fine lines around the eyes appear softened.
Firmer-looking across the giveaway zones
With consistent use, many customers report visibly firmer-looking skin across the face, neck, chest and hands.
Honest answers
What women in the change ask us.
Be straight with me: does it smell?
A little, yes, and we'd rather say so now. There's no synthetic fragrance in this jar to hide behind, so what you smell is what's in it: rendered grass-fed fat with the earthy, faintly spiced note of the clove and hibiscus infusion. It settles within a minute or two of going on, and nobody else notices it. Some customers come to like it. A small number never make peace with it, and if that's you, tell us and we'll look after you. If a perfumed cream is what you want, we're honestly not the brand for you.
Will this do anything for my hormones?
No, and we won't pretend otherwise. MOUNTAIN is a skincare balm, not a treatment for menopause, and anything to do with hormones belongs with your GP. What it addresses is the skin side: the dryness, the tightness, the loss of bounce and the crepey look that come with the drop in oil and collagen production.
My skin has become reactive. Is this safe for it?
It's designed with exactly that in mind. Five whole ingredients, no preservatives, no synthetic fragrance, no acids or retinoids. Because there's no water in the formula, there's no need for the preservative system that water-based creams require, and preservatives are a common source of irritation for skin that has turned sensitive. Patch test a small area first, as you would with anything new.
Can I use it alongside HRT, or with the actives I already use?
It sits happily over or under most routines, and plenty of our customers use it as the last step at night on top of everything else. It won't interfere with HRT. If you're using prescription retinoids or acids, keep doing what your doctor or dermatologist advised and use MOUNTAIN on the nights or areas where you want comfort and richness.
Can topical collagen actually absorb? I've read that it can't.
You've read correctly, about synthetic collagen. Isolated collagen molecules are far too large to pass the skin barrier, which is why most collagen creams disappoint. MOUNTAIN doesn't use those. The collagen here comes from purified grass-fed bone marrow, an animal fat, carried in tallow, another animal fat your skin already recognises. Nothing has to be forced through anything.
Will it feel heavy at night? I'm already overheating.
A pea-sized amount is genuinely all you need for face and neck, and it absorbs rather than sitting as a film. Customers describe it as rich but not greasy. If you run hot at night, use it in the morning instead. It works either way.
