Nestled in the breathtaking mountains of Myoko, Japan, Myoko Embodied was born out of necessity, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for nature’s wisdom.

Unlike Australia, where natural products are
readily available, Japan’s market is heavily commercialised, dominated by chemical-laden cosmetics and household goods.
Living there full-time, we found ourselves longing for the pure, natural products we once took for granted. So, we started making our own.
One thing led to another, other foreigners in the area noticed and wanted our creations, leading us to selling at local markets up and down the country. Before we knew it, we were shipping our products all over Japan.
But the real turning point came from an unexpected source: our local butcher.
One day, he handed us a few small, neatly wrapped cubes of what he called "gyushi". With our broken Japanese and his broken English, we left with only a vague idea of what it was; he even suggested dipping it in soy sauce and eating it!
A quick translation revealed that gyushi meant tallow. While we didn’t eat it as suggested, we did start cooking with it, which led us down a rabbit hole of research into tallow’s deep-rooted history in ancient cultures.

We discovered that tallow had been used for centuries for cooking, preserving food, washing, and even medicinally to heal wounds and skin conditions.
Intrigued, we decided to experiment with making our own skincare products. The results were incredible!
As we fine-tuned our formula, we began selling it at markets, and the feedback was nothing short of trans-formative. Customers shared stories of eczema clearing up, acne reducing, and skin looking more radiant than ever.
So the tallow journey began...
Demand grew, and so did our production. Looking back, we laugh at the thought of our butcher’s confusion — he must have been shocked that the foreigners he had gifted a few cubes of tallow to were suddenly buying kilos upon kilos!
All of this unfolded while we were fully immersed in the raw beauty of Myoko. Life in the mountains was simple, slow, and deeply connected to nature’s rhythms. Winters were spent shoveling snow and snowboarding between the trees, feeling completely in tune with the elements. Summers were for gardening, swimming in the lake, hiking, and basking in the sun.

This profound connection to nature shaped our brand’s ethos
We realised that skincare isn’t just about physical ingredients — it’s about energy, intention, and aligning with the natural world. We didn’t just want to create products; we wanted to create magic.
And so, upon moving back to Australia, Myoko Embodied was born. Named after the place where our journey began, it embodies the wisdom, beauty, and power of nature, bringing ancient traditions back to life in a modern world that needs them now more than ever.
